Humayun's Tomb

Here is my much awaited visit to Humayun's tomb, was literally dumbfounded with its massive beauty.

 The magnificent tomb

Built by Hamida Begum in 1565, the widow of Humayun, is the first example of Mughal architecture in India. It is also the first garden-tomb on indian subcontinent. This has inspired the construction of Taj Mahal built a century later.

Me in front of the tomb

The two storied mausoleum has the grave of the emperor on the basement floor, with nearly a hundred graves of members of the Royal family in the corner chambers.

You can see several other monuments adjoining the main tomb. Prominent among them is Isa Khan's tomb and mosque. Isa Khan Niyazi was an Afghan noble in Sher Shah Suri's court.

National Gandhi Museum

Visited Gandhi Museum after spending some time near Bapu's samadhi.
National Gandhi Museum is worth visiting, for you find a greater collection of original photographs, journals, audio-visual materials, art pieces, other memorablia connected to Gandhiji, Kasturba and Indian Freedom Struggle.

                                                       Sculpture depicting Dandi March

This is a 6 m tall statue in cement concrete of Mahatma Gandhi based on Nandalal Bose's well know 'motif' in Lino-cut prepared in March 1930 to commemorate the event of Gandhiji leading the historic Dandi March on March 1930 with 78 selected followers from Satyagraha Ashram in Ahmedabad.
He walked for 24 days over 241 miles and broke the Salt Law on 6 April, 1930, on the Dandi sea coast while the whole country and the world watched Salt Satyagraha was the most successful
example of Non-Violent Civil Disobedience.

Martyrdom gallery has:
  • blood stained dhoti and shawl and the watch worn by Bapu when he was assassinated
  • one of the three bullets which killed him,
  • urns in which his ashes were carried for immersion into various rivers, the wooden frame in which the main urn was taken to Prayag and the cloth bag in which the ashes were kept for being carried to Prayag and Rameshwaram.

Atlast i visited Rajghat, after a busy work schedule of more than two weeks.

                                                     Path leading to Gandhiji's samadhi

A chilly morning, absolute silence, serene beauty welcomed the way to Bapu's samadhi.

Samadhi of Bapu

Observed silence for few minutes, lost myself  in his thoughts for a while. Later could observe many tourists, visitors from across the country, school children accompanied by their teachers everyone was eager to pay tribute to the father of the Nation.
